Tummy Tuck Before & After Case 183

This is a 43-year-old woman who had changes of her abdomen following pregnancies that she was unable to improve with exercise.  The loose skin and stretch marks bother her greatly, and she came to our Albany, New York office to discuss the options for improvement

As is shown in the photographs, this woman is clearly fit, and has minimal fat.  The majority of her issue is loose skin which is particularly noticeable around her belly button and lower belly.  This is a common occurrence following multiple pregnancies.  After being stretched during pregnancies, the skin loses its elasticity, resulting in both stretch marks and hanging skin.  No effective lasers or topical treatments to treat this.  The best option is a tummy tuck.  

With a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, the skin from the belly button to the pubic hair is removed, and the skin of the upper abdomen stretches to cover the entire belly.  This removes the redundant and loose skin and creates a flat belly.

In this woman, a full abdominoplasty was necessary due to the loose skin above her belly button.  If there is only minimal loose skin and it is limited to the lower belly below the belly button, a mini-tummy tuck is an option.  However most woman after pregnancies have some laxity of the upper abdomen as well.  These women are better treated with a full tummy tuck.  

As you can see in the postoperative photograph, her belly is now flat and tight.  The scars will continue to fade, as the photograph here is only six weeks after surgery.  She is now able to resume her exercise regimen and has her belly back.
