Tummy Tuck Before & After Case 184

This 55-year-old woman had multiple previous abdominal surgeries which left her with a loss of contour of her abdomen as well as many scars.  The appearance of her belly made her feel heavy and limited in the clothing which she could wear.  She had realistic expectations and didn’t expect a washboard like abdomen like in her teen years.  She did however wish to feel less self-conscious about her belly and came to discuss the potential options.  

As you can see in the photograph, she has two very common scars of her belly.  The first is in her right upper abdomen from having her gallbladder removed many years ago.  The second is the low vertical scar that many women have after a gynecologic surgeries.  This scar tends to indent and rarely heals in a nice fashion.  A tummy tuck can be used to remove this type of scar and, combined with liposuction in this case, can create a flat belly. 

The trade off for a tummy tuck is a low horizontal scar which resides within the underwear line.  This scar is usually well concealed and heals much better than vertical scars in the belly.  The tummy tuck allowed removal of the scar and excess skin, while the liposuction allowed removal of unwanted fat.  A combination of the two gives us maximum thinning of the belly and the best possible results.  

This woman’s tummy tuck was done as an outpatient at our surgery center near our office.  This combines the safety factors of a hospital operating room with the convenience and friendliness of a smaller office.  I feel that this offers the best of both worlds and creates a nice environment to have a procedure done in.  The postoperative photograph shown here is two months after surgery.  She has resumed all of her activities and was able to get back to work within two weeks.  She is very happy with the results as am I.
