Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia) Before & After Case 187
Before & After
Case Details
This 18-year-old presented with gynecomastia, or the development of male breasts. He had become self-conscious about his chest and avoided pools and the beach because he did not like to take his shirt off. He also found it difficult to wear T-shirts and thinner shirts, as his breasts were visible. He came to our Albany, New York office to see what could be done to improve this.
Gynecomastia is very common and male breast reduction procedures to treat this are in the top five cosmetic procedures performed on males in America. Most cases arise spontaneously, and once it develops, gynecomastia does not resolve on its own. In most cases, such as this one, the treatment of gynecomastia is removal of the breast tissue. This can be done as a relatively brief outpatient procedure with limited recovery time. There is a small scar that exists after the procedure and is located at the junction of the dark skin of the nipple and light skin of the chest. In most cases, this is a fairly inconspicuous scar and fades quite nicely.
As you can see in the postoperative photographs, his chest is thinner and more masculinized, and the nipples less protuberant. This is typically not recurrent after its treatment, and he no longer needs to feel self-conscious.
